Explosion Rocks Texas Valero Refinery
The blast, whose cause remains under investigation, originated from a heater unit at the facility, sending thick flames into the sky and forcing officials to impose a shelter-in-place order for residents on the city's west side.
Authorities warned of significant traffic disruptions in the vicinity, urging motorists to avoid the affected zone.
"Expect road closures in and around the area of Hwy 82 & 87 and traffic coming into this area from additional roadways," the Port Arthur Police Department stated.
Residents living in the impacted area were instructed to remain indoors and await official guidance before venturing outside. Officials said the order would remain in effect until the "All Clear" was issued by emergency personnel on the ground.
Despite the scale of the incident, no casualties have been reported. Media confirmed there were no injuries, citing Jefferson County Sheriff Zena Stephens as its source.
Investigators have yet to determine what triggered the explosion. The situation remains active, and authorities have not indicated when the shelter-in-place order will be lifted.
