UAE Reports Shooting Down Five Iranian Missiles, 17 Drones

(MENAFN) The United Arab Emirates confirmed Tuesday that its air defense systems had intercepted five ballistic missiles and 17 drones launched by Iran, as the regional conflict triggered by a joint U.S.-Israeli offensive shows no signs of abating.

The UAE Defense Ministry stopped short of providing details on potential casualties or infrastructure damage resulting from the latest assault, leaving the full scope of the attack unclear.

The figures, however, paint a staggering picture of the aerial campaign endured by the Emirates since hostilities erupted on Feb. 28 — with defense systems having neutralized a cumulative total of 357 ballistic missiles, 15 cruise missiles, and 1,806 Iranian drones in less than a month.

The relentless attacks are part of Tehran's broader retaliatory strategy following the U.S.-Israeli joint offensive against Iran, a campaign that has now claimed more than 1,340 reported lives. Beyond the UAE, Iran has directed drone and missile strikes at Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and other Gulf nations sheltering American military personnel — triggering a cascade of casualties, infrastructure damage, and mounting disruptions to global aviation and financial markets.

Tuesday's engagement underscores the UAE's increasingly frontline role in a conflict that continues to pull the wider Middle East deeper into the crossfire.
